Martial Arts:

Students will gain a sense of individual accomplishment. Through partner exercises, students will build team spirit. Instructors aim to teach more than just kicking and punching skills. They want to give each student the necessary skills for real life and develop students more completely. Students will improve their posture, confidence, and discipline that often carries into their home life and school work. They will have fun, being introduced to the world of Martial Arts and learning new motor skills.

Cooking Club:

Over the next 10 weeks let’s cook some healthy snacks together! We’ll talk about healthy eating and get a chance to sample our snacks!.

Animal Enrichment Club:

The goal of this enrichment club is to provide children with an opportunity to learn about various animals from around the world.  The club will incorporate literacy, location skills, and art. Informational Read Alouds will be used to foster interest and instill a deeper understanding for each animal taught, followed by key terminology to locate them on a map which is an essential skill that they will extend upon as they get older.  Students will then engage in a craft using different art mediums and some recycled materials.  This will provide an opportunity for them to practice their fine motor skills, as well as explore, extend, and express their unique creative abilities.

Chess:

Students will learn the rules and principles of the game of chess.  Through both guided and independent practice, students will have fun playing the classic game of strategy and logic that has been proven to foster a wide variety of cognitive benefits.  Studies have shown that playing chess helps improve critical thinking, spatial reasoning, pattern recognition, concentration, memory, attention span, and even creativity.  By learning the rules of the game, how the different pieces move and interact, and why some strategies are more successful than others, students will develop their appreciation and ability for engaging in careful planning and creative problem-solving.

Yoga:

Students will be exposed to yoga practices including poses, breathing techniques, and mindfulness exercises all through fun games, crafts, and interactive read aloud.  They will develop body awareness, learn to manage stress through breathing and awareness, build concentration, increase their confidence and positive self-image, and feel part of a healthy, non-competitive group. With continued practice, the benefits of yoga will carry into their daily life and school experiences.
